Andy has more than 28 years experience in the ATM industry, much of which has been focussed on leading/developing and delivering products and services to a wide range of global customers to increase airport capacity and operational performance. Andy joined NATS in 1989 as an Air Traffic Controller and spent 18 years in operational roles at a number of UK airports including Tower and Radar Controller, Unit Training Officer, CAA Examiner, Watch Manager. His last operational role was as Head of Air Traffic Control at London's Gatwick Airport. Andy was responsible for leading seven years of capacity scheduling process for London Gatwick (14 scheduling seasons), taking the airport from a single peak hour declaration of 50 flights per hour to multiple hours at 55 movements/hr, including the largest single season release of peak slots in Gatwick's history (summer 2014). During this time he was specifically requested to join the Airport's Operating Company/Investors in order to develop and deliver their "ACDM55" performance improvement programme. He was also seconded from NATS to the HQ of the European ATM Agency, EUROCONTROL, in Brussels, for three years as Senior Advisor to its Airport Operations and Environment Division. He worked extensively across Europe during this time with all major airports, from Lisbon to Istanbul, providing operational troubleshooting and performance improvement capabilities. While in Brussels, Andy developed Eurocontrol's Airport Capacity Enhancement (ACE) product/programme and advised the Belgian Parliament on Brussels National Airport's environmental policy compliance. He was also responsible for developing procedures and guidance material, adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), including major safety initiatives (European Action Plan for Prevention of Runway Incursions - EAPPRI - and ICAO Runway Safety Manual). As part of NATS worldwide consultancy services, Andy was the delivery lead in major performance improvement projects with GVK and AAI in Mumbai and in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth) with Air Services Australia. During his career Andy has demonstrated a significant understanding of developing trends in the air traffic market and related technologies, focussing on the operational value that can be provided from these to our current and future customers, rather than the trend itself This includes, most recently, developing NATS Digital Tower delivery and development strategy. He is currently leading the deployment by NATS of the world's largest Digital Tower programme at Singapore's Changi Airport.
